The Chicken Foot Dominoes Game Setup
Let’s briefly enclose the rules for Chickenfoot.
- The number of players: from 2 to 8
- The number of domino tiles – 55 double dominoes from 0 to 9 pips
- 1 Centerpiece to put the starting domino (typically, Double 9 for the 1 round)
- The number of rounds – 10
Chicken Foot Game Rules
Chicken Foot game requires at least 2 players to play it with the maximum number of players up to 8. How to play Dominoes Chickenfoot? That’s simple:
- Draw a set of domino tiles for each player to form a so-called ‘hand’
- Leave all the rest dominoes lying down face on the table – that’s your ‘chicken yard’
- Place the centerpiece and put the starting tile in its rack. The first round always starts with the Double 9 tile, the next – with Double 8, then comes Double 7 and the finishing round is played with Double Zero as a centerpiece.
- The player who has the starting double starts the round. If no one has it, players pick dominoes from the chickenyard one by one and the one who picks the required Double starts the game.
- After the first tile is set, the round goes clockwise, and the next player must play a tile from their hand matching the starting double. If there is no match in the player’s hand, they can pick one domino from the chicken yard to play it. If the picked tile doesn’t match, then a player shouts ‘Pass!’ and the turn goes to the next one.
- Tiles can be placed to your wish in all slots of the centerpiece, only in 4 of them, or in 6. The next player can either play a tile matching the starting double or a tile placed by the previous player.
- The game runs in rounds until someone finishes it by getting an empty hand or when all players have no matching tiles and the chicken yard is empty.
- When a player plays a Double domino (which has a similar number of pipes on both ends), they put it perpendicularly to the main chain of dominoes and shout ‘Chickie Three’, for example, if the Double tile is Double 3. This means that the next three players have to put their dominoes only to this double, matching it and making a figure similar to the chicken’s toot.
- Only after the chicken foot is made, the game goes again in any direction for dominoes to be placed.
After the round ends, the results of each player are indicated in a scorebook, and the next round with the smaller starting Double tile begins. The game is over when all 10 rounds are completed.
Scoring Chicken Foot Dominoes Rules
The best result is when a player has zero score after all 10 rounds. For each round, the score is calculated by the number of pips remaining in a player’s hand. For example, if a player has 2 dominoes, 5:5 and 9:3, the score of the round for him may be 5+5+9+3=22. Sometimes, Double zero tiles bring 50 points. Then, the scores for all 9 rounds are calculated together.
Winnings and Strategies
According to Chicken Foot rules, the winner is the player who achieved the lowest total score. If there are players with similar total scores, the winner is who gets more rounds with a zero score.
As for the strategies, they are diverse. Some prefer to play all Doubles from the very start to create as many chicken feet as possible, others may tend to quickly place all tiles matching the starting one to increase chances for the next turn.
